Some second-half heroics by Adam Thompson helped the UHV men's soccer team pick up a win on Senior Day and secure homefield advantage in the Red River Athletic Conference quarterfinals.
The Jaguars (11-3-2, 9-3-1) beat Texas A&M-San Antonio 2-1 on Saturday at The Cage with Thompson's 52nd minute goal proving to be the difference.
UHV will host Jarvis Christian next week in the RRAC Quarterfinals at a time and date to be determined. The winner will advance to the RRAC Semifinals held at Texas A&M-Texarkana Nov. 9 and 11.
It was the second goal of the year for Thompson, matching a career-high the Portsmouth, England, native set last year.
Matthew Albury scored the game's opening goal by heading home Ryan Naidoo's corner kick in the 19th minute. It was the third goal of the year for the 6-foot-3 center back from Barcelona, Spain, and the team-leading seventh assist for Naidoo, a native of Johannesburg, South Africa.
TAMUSA (8-5-2, 7-4-2) equalized in the 24th minute with a goal from Jacob Olivares before Thompson eventually delivered the win for UHV.
Klaidas Pudluskas had a team-high three shots on Saturday.
Sophomore goalkeeper Tyler Kaeppeli made two saves to pick up the win.
UHV honored Albury, Naidoo, Antoine Detavernier, Daniel Connell, Jose Martinez, Samuel Nsenganivyizigiro and student manager Claude Byiringiro at halftime of the game with a Senior Day ceremony for their last regular season home game.
