METAIRIE, La. – A pair of second-half goals helped the UHV men's soccer team to a huge road win on Thursday.
The Jaguars upended conference leader Xavier (La.) 2-1 at Lafreniere Park thanks to goals from Osiel Robledo and Yahir Pena.
UHV (9-3-1, 7-3-0) fell behind 1-0 after 20 minutes before Robledo scored in the 62nd minute to equalize. It was the first goal of the year for the junior from Houston.
Pena put away the game-winner in the 77th minute on an assist from Ryan Naidoo. Pena, a freshman from Pharr, now leads the team in goals with six this season.
Pena also led the team with three shots against Xavier.
It was the sixth assist of the season for Naidoo, a senior from Johannesburg, South Africa. That mark leads the team, as well.
Sophomore goalkeeper Tyler Kaeppeli made five saves to help the Jaguars snap a two-game losing streak. It's the third time this season Kaeppeli has made five or more saves.
With the win, UHV handed the Gold Rush (9-3-0, 8-2-0) their first home loss of the season.
The Jaguars next travel to Houston to face North American University at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
