Jags fall to Jarvis Christian in RRAC Quarterfinals
The UHV men's soccer team's season came to an end on Saturday.
The Jaguars lost 2-0 to Jarvis Christian in the Red River Athletic Conference quarterfinals at The Cage.
UHV finishes the season 11-4-2 overall. It's the ninth 10-win season in program history.
"One game doesn't define your season," said head coach Adrian Rigby. "I thought we had a good season overall. Obviously, we fell short of our goals with this program and, when you have the success the program has had, each year makes it tougher and tougher to achieve. Going forward, we'll push to make another run. But today, we just came up a bit short."
The Bulldogs (10-4-3) opened the scoring in the 26th minute with a goal from Johan Arevalo. It was one of only four shots by Jarvis Christian in the first half compared to UHV's six.
The Jaguars were pushing for an equalizer in the second half and mustered 11 shots in the second period. Adam Thompson had one of the best chances for UHV, but his header in the 51st minute hit the crossbar. The Portsmouth, England, native had three shots in the game. Matthew Albury had a game-high five shots.
Thompson also had another chance at an equalizer in the 63rd minute, but it was saved Martin Rodriguez doubled the Bulldogs' lead five minutes later.
"We've been in plenty of playoff games and (Jarvis) came out flying," Rigby said. "We looked a little bit nervous and then got our legs under us. We were just a little unlucky with our finishing today and they capitalized on it."
Saturday marked the end of the UHV careers for Albury, Jose Martinez, Daniel Connell, Samuel Nsenganivyizigiro, Antoine Detavernier and Ryan Naidoo.
