The UHV men's soccer team is looking to carry momentum into its final regular season matches this week.
The Jaguars (10-3-1, 8-3-0) travel to Our Lady of the Lake at 3:30 p.m. Thursday before returning home to face Texas A&M-San Antonio at 3:30 p.m. Saturday for Senior Day.
UHV picked up a pair of wins last week with a 2-1 result over first-place Xavier (La.) and then a 4-0 win over North American.
"Our men responded well last week, and we want to carry that over this week against two good teams," said head coach Adrian Rigby. "Our practices have been good, and we want to finish the regular season strong."
Freshman Yahir Pena came up big for the Jaguars last week, scoring two goals in the two matches, including the game-winner against Xavier. The Red River Athletic Conference named him its Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts last week.
With the two goals, the Pharr native took the team lead in goals with seven, and points with 14. His mark in goals ranks eighth in the RRAC.
Ryan Naidoo, Adam Thompson and Diby Kouassi scored in the win over North American. Osiel Robledo's first goal of the year tied the game against Xavier at 1-1.
UHV's average of 2.64 goals per game ranks third in the RRAC.
Sophomore goalkeeper Tyler Kaeppeli notched his seventh shutout of the season in Saturday's win. Kaeppeli made 11 saves between the two games, as well.
His 0.89 goals against average ranks fifth in the RRAC.
Thursday will be the 18th all-time meeting between UHV and OLLU (4-8-2, 4-5-2). The Jaguars notched a 5-0 win at home last year in their last meeting.
Saturday will be the third meeting between UHV and Texas A&M-San Antonio (7-4-2, 6-3-2). The two teams battled to a 1-1 draw last year in San Antonio.
UHV will honor seniors Naidoo, Antoine Detavernier, Matthew Albury, Daniel Connell, Jose Martinez, Samuel Nsenganivyizigiro and manager Claude Byringiro on Saturday for Senior Day.
