PLAINVIEW – The UHV Men's Soccer team found its stride in the second half on Saturday.
Three Jaguars found the net in the second half to propel UHV to a 3-0 win over Wayland Baptist at J.V. Hilliard Field in the team's non-conference finale.
The win moved UHV to 2-0-1 to open the year heading into its conference-opening matches at Texas College on Sept. 19 and Jarvis Christian on Sept. 21.
Dario Elsen notched his first career goal at UHV in the 54th minute to open the scoring thanks to an assist from Baillie O'Reilly.
O'Reilly picked up his second goal in as many matches with a solo effort in the 75th minute to make it 2-0. The junior from Burbage, England, leads the team in points with six thanks to two goals and two assists.
Adam Thompson followed his fellow Englishman's lead in the 83rd minute with a strike from outside the penalty area to cap the scoring and seal the win for UHV. The Portsmouth, England, native led the team with four shots and three on goal.
In total, the Jaguars had five players with multiple shots in the win over the Pioneers (2-3).
Junior goalkeeper Tyler Kaeppeli was called into action for starter Eric Thust in the 10th minute. The Vernon, Canada, native racked up six saves in 80 minutes of work as he and Thust shared credit for the Jaguars' second consecutive clean sheet. It's the 15th shutout in Kaeppeli's career.
