Jags set for Jarvis Christian tilt and Youth Soccer Appreciation Weekend
The UHV men's soccer team has been flying high in the last two matches, scoring 15 goals.
The Jaguars will look to continue that form on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. when they welcome Jarvis Christian to The Cage for the second Red River Athletic Conference match of the season.
"We have a lot of confidence up front right now," said head coach Adrian Rigby. "We've had a number of guys score which has led to that confidence. We need to keep that same mentality to be successful in this conference."
Nine different players have scored this season for UHV (3-0-1, 1-0-0), including six with multiple goals.
Yahir Pena set the program's new single-game scoring record with four goals in a 7-0 win over Texas College on Thursday. He was one of four UHV players on the scoresheet during the record-setting day.
The Jaguars' 19 goals this season ranks first in the RRAC ahead of LSU Shreveport. Pena's four goals currently leads the RRAC while Einar Rolfsen and Mateo Canales are tied for third in the conference with three goals each.
But UHV has been sound defensively, as well.
The Jaguars' 0.57 goals against average ranks fourth in the conference and sophomore goalkeeper Tyler Kaeppeli leads the league with three clean sheets.
The defense has also limited opponents to 21 total shots through four matches.
The Bulldogs (2-1-0, 0-0-0) enter Saturday after lightning suspended play in their conference opener Thursday against Huston-Tillotson.
Saturday will be the 11th meeting all-time between the teams. UHV has won the previous 10, including a 4-1 result in Hawkins last year.
Saturday will also be Youth Soccer Appreciation Weekend. All kids wearing either their UHV Soccer Camp or youth soccer jersey get in free with a paid adult ticket.
