A second-half equalizer wasn't enough for the UHV men's soccer team on Thursday.
The Jaguars fell 3-1 to Xavier (La.) in Red River Athletic Conference play.
UHV (6-5-2, 4-5-1) leveled the game at 1-1 in the 62nd minute when Matt Sturgeon headed home a free kick by Osiel Robledo. It was the second goal of the season for the senior from Battle, United Kingdom.
But the Gold Rush (9-3-1, 8-2-0) responded five minutes later when Leonardo Menzen finished a pass by Artur Rubim. Rubim would then seal the result with his second goal of the match in the 72nd minute.
The Jaguars put six of their nine shots on goal. Robledo led the team with two shots on goal. He and Mathias Jorstad each had two total shots.
UHV will look to snap its three-game skid on Saturday when it welcomes North American to The Cage for Senior Day. At halftime, the Jaguars will recognize Sturgeon, Robledo, Adam Thompson, Carlos Quinones, Klaidas Pudlauskas, Diby Kouassi and Archie Mills.
