WACO – The Red River Athletic Conference announced its 2024 Men's Soccer All-Conference awards on Friday and four UHV players earned recognition.
Seniors Carlos Quinones and Osiel Robledo were recognized with Honorable Mention honors while Mathias Jorstad was recognized on the All-Freshman team. Sophomore Ivan Sanchez was named UHV's Champion of Character representative.
Quinones, a native of Reynosa, Mexico, was an everyday starter for the Jaguars in the midfield with 16 starts and served as the conductor of UHV's attack which ranked third in the RRAC with a 2.31 Goals For Average. He had a goal and an assist in his final season with the Jaguars and this is his second consecutive postseason recognition.
"Carlos was a mainstay in the midfield for us this year," said head coach Adrian Rigby. "His quality of passing and vision is exceptional. Carlos displayed great leadership and was well respected by his teammates and coaching staff."
This is the first honor for Robledo, a native of Houston. The midfielder shared the team-lead in assists with five and contributed a pair of goals to UHV's stout offense in 16 matches and 15 starts. He had a career day with a goal and two assists in a 4-1 win over North American on Oct. 26 for Senior Day.
"Osiel was a tireless worker in the midfield," Rigby said. "He's very skilled in dangerous in the attack and seemed to be all over the field defensively. Osiel led by example and left everything on the field."
Jorstad earned his recognition following a strong freshman season. The Harstad, Norway, native scored four times and had four assists for the Jaguars. He scored a hat trick and had an assist in UHV's 7-1 rout of Paul Quinn College.
"Mathias was a skilled center-midfielder," Rigby said. "He had some really good flashes throughout the season."
Sanchez was selected as UHV's Champion of Character representative for his commitment to the CoC's five core values of respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership and sportsmanship. The Houston native appeared in four matches this season.
"Ivan is an extremely hard-working player," Rigby said. "He worked his way on to the travel team for his work rate and desire to play at UHV. His work ethic is valued by all members of the team and staff."
The Jaguars finished the season 7-7-2 overall.
