The UHV men's soccer team is set to host a crucial Red River Athletic Conference match on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
The Jaguars (8-2-1, 6-2-0) welcomes Louisiana Christian to The Cage. Currently, the UHV is a game behind the first-place Wildcats (8-3-1, 7-1) and Xavier (La.) in the RRAC standings with five matches left in the regular season.
UHV will hope to bounce back from a loss to LSU Alexandria on Thursday.
The Jaguars will look to lean on strong defensive play against LCU.
UHV's 0.76 goals against average is the second-best mark in the RRAC and sophomore goalkeeper Tyler Kaeppeli's six shutouts this season leads the conference. The Wildcats have scored an average of 2.92 goals per game entering Saturday.
The Jaguars' potent offense was held scoreless for the first time this season despite creating 12 shots against the Generals. UHV is averaging 2.82 goals this season entering Saturday's contest, a mark which ranks third in the conference.
Mateo Canales, Yahir Pena and Einar Rolfsen share the team-lead in goals with five each. Ryan Naidoo ranks third in the RRAC for assists with five.
This will be the fourth all-time meeting between the schools with UHV holding a 1-1-1 record in the series. The two teams met in last year's RRAC semifinals in which the Jaguars fell 2-0.
Saturday is also Family Weekend for UHV.
