The UHV men's soccer team will head to New Mexico on Thursday to face University of the Southwest.
The Jaguars (6-1-1, 4-1-0) have won their last three matches, including a 1-0 win over Jarvis Christian on Monday.
Philipp Kueck, a sophomore defender, scored his second career goal to lift UHV to a win.
However, while the Jaguars have averaged 3.38 goals per game, the team's defense has put them in position to win.
UHV's defense has posted five shutouts this season, which leads the Red River Athletic Conference. The Jaguars' 0.67 goals against average also shares the conference lead with Xavier (La.).
Kueck's two goals this season makes him the eighth different Jaguar with multiple goals.
Einar Rolfsen and Yahir Pena lead the team with five goals each. Rolfsen, a freshman forward from Gjerdrum, Norway, scored in Saturday's 4-0 win over Huston-Tillotson to tie Pena for the team lead.
UHV's 3.38 goals per game leads the conference while the team's 78 points (goals and assists) ranks second.
Southwest is allowing an average of 2.76 goals per game, which is the fourth highest in the conference.
UHV holds a 8-3-2 advantage in the all-time series. The two teams had a 1-1 draw last year.
