Bio

Adrian Rigby begins his 14th season as head men’s and women’s soccer coach at the University of Houston-Victoria.

Under Rigby’s leadership, the Jaguars men’s team captured their first Red River Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles in 2017 to qualify for the NAIA National Championships for the first time in school history.

The UHV men finished the 2019 season with their sixth straight 10-plus-game win season, compiling a 16-1-3 record to win their second RRAC title and advance to the RRAC postseason for the fifth straight year. The Jaguars also earned their second berth in three years to the NAIA National Championships postseason.

The Jaguars have advanced to the conference tournament seven times since the program began in 2010. They reached the Association of Independent Institutions Conference Tournament in 2012 and finished as the A.I.I. conference runners-up in 2014, and advanced to the RRAC Tournament in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019.

The UHV women’s team finished the 2019 season with an 11-6-1 mark, earning their fourth straight trip to the RRAC Postseason.

The 2015 UHV women’s team became the first soccer team to break into the NAIA Top 25 rankings with a Number 25 ranking in the second week of the poll. The Jaguars stayed ranked for four consecutive polls and obtained their best ranking at No. 20 the final two weeks.

The UHV men’s team has achieved a 98-55-16 record under Rigby, while the women’s team has compiled a 74-80-6 record.

The UHV Soccer teams have also exceled in the classroom. The UHV women’s soccer team received the NSCAA Academic Award in 2016, 2017 and the men’s soccer team received the award in 2017.

Rigby became UHV’s first soccer head coach in 2010 after spending five seasons as an assistant coach at St. Edward’s University, where the Hilltoppers claimed the 2009 Heartland Conference title. During his time at St. Edward’s, the team achieved an NSCAA top-25 ranking in the 2006 and 2008 seasons, climbing as high as No. 12 in the 2008 poll.

Prior to St. Edward’s, Rigby served as a graduate assistant coach/head goalkeeper trainer at Midwestern State University for two seasons. During his time at MSU, the team advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight in 2003. In 2004, the Midwestern goalie was named the Southwest Soccer Conference Goalkeeper of the Year. A native of North Delta, British Columbia, Canada, Rigby graduated from Averett University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in sports medicine/wellness and completed his Master of Education in curriculum instruction and kinesiology at Midwestern State in 2005.

A four-year starter at Averett, he was selected to the 1998 all-state team and the 1998 and 2001 all-conference teams. In 2013, he was named to the USA South Men’s Soccer 50th Anniversary team. He also trained professionally with the Vancouver 86’ers reserve squad of the A-League in 1999. Coach Rigby holds a USSF “B” license and NSCAA Goalkeeping Level 1 and 2 licenses.

In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Rigby also serves as the UHV assistant athletics director, developing and managing the UHV student-athlete workforce readiness program and coordinating the UHV athletics internship program.
