HAWKINS – As they say, better late than never.
The UHV women's soccer team used three goals in the span of 10 minutes in the second half to erase a two-goal deficit and claim a 4-3 win over Jarvis Christian on Saturday at Wendon L. Blair Soccer Field.
With the thrilling comeback, the Jaguars (5-0, 2-0) set a new program record for best start to the season. The previous mark was set by the 2016 team which won its first four games.
Estelle Flanagan scored the winner in the 88th minute with a header off a cross from Kyleigh Spree-Kolos. Spree-Kolos' second goal of the match came in the 82nd minute after slotting home a pass from Rosa Reyes.
Both Flanagan and Spree-Kolos have scored three goals each in the last two matches for UHV.
After falling behind 3-1 in the 70th minute, Noa Txintxurreta sparked the comeback with a header on Arantza Alva's corner kick.
Spree-Kolos opened the scoring in the fourth minute in the same fashion as Txinturreta, but from a corner kick taken by Kaitlin Kongdara.
Franciezca Blancaflor earned the win in goal after coming on in the second half for starter Hayli Nichols, keeping the Bulldogs (2-3, 1-1) at bay for the final 17 minutes.
UHV returns home to face LSU Shreveport on Thursday, Sept. 26, and Texas A&M-Texarkana on Saturday, Sept. 28.
