HOUSTON – The UHV women's soccer team cruised to a win on Saturday.
The Jaguars beat North American University 5-0 on Saturday at Dulles High School. Five goals in the first half set a new season-high mark for first-half goals for UHV (6-5-5, 4-4-3).
It's the third time this season the Jaguars have scored five or more goals in a game.
Andrea Aborqui and Chloe Spencer connected for the game's opening goal in the third minute with Aborqui, a graduate senior from Bakersfield, California, netting her fourth goal of the season.
Spencer, a Victoria native, put the Jaguars up 2-0 in the 22nd minute when she nodded home Camden Garner's cross. It was the second goal this season for the senior midfielder.
Estelle Flanagan scored her team-leading seventh goal this season top put UHV up 3-0 in the 35th minute on a pass from Kaydee Cox. The senior from McKinney has now scored 27 career goals for the Jaguars.
Cox picked up her second assist of the game two minutes later when she found Trine Stenderup-Jorgensen to extend the Jaguars lead to 4-0 at the time.
The Jaguars won a penalty in the 40th minute and Katerin Morales, a senior from Houston, successfully put the spot kick away for a 5-0 lead. It was the third goal of the season for Morales.
In total, the Jaguars posted 14 shots while limiting the Stallions (5-8-0, 3-8-0) to four. Freshman goalkeeper Franciezca Blancaflor picked up the shutout after making four saves.
The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Jaguars.
UHV will continue its road trip at Our Lady of the Lake on Thursday before returning home to face Texas A&M-San Antonio on Oct. 28 for Senior Day.
