PLAINVIEW – Kyleigh Spree-Kolos provided the decisive goal for the UHV Women's Soccer team in a 1-0 win over Wayland Baptist on Saturday at J.V. Hilliard Field.
Spree-Kolos used a left-footed shot in the 30th minute to beat Wayland's Raelyn Stone in goal. It's the first goal of the year for the Victoria native and graduate transfer from Our Lady of the Lake University.
The Jaguars improved to 2-0 with the win, the first time they've started the season with consecutive wins since 2021 when the team went on to win 11.
Reigning Red River Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week Hayli Nichols made a pair of saves to earn her second consecutive shutout.
Senior Estelle Flanagan led the team with four shots shots on Saturday. She, Spree-Kolos, Chloe Spencer, Prisila Campos and Trine Stenderup-Jorgensen each had two shots on goal.
The Jaguars return to Victoria for their home opener against NCAA Division III school Schreiner University at 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 13.
