Historic season comes to an end for women’s soccer
METAIRIE, La. – The UHV women's soccer team's historic season came to an end on Thursday.
The Jaguars fell 4-1 to Xavier (La.) in the Red River Athletic Conference Quarterfinals at Lafreniere Park.
UHV (11-6-0) had a perfect start to the game with Chloe Spencer scoring in the third minute off an assist from Trine Stenderup-Jorgensen. It was the first goal of the season for the senior from Victoria.
Seniors Kyleigh Spree-Kolos and Estelle Flanagan led the way in shots with three apiece and two on goal as the Jaguars peppered nine shots against the Gold Nuggets (12-5-1).
Sophomore goalkeeper Franciezca Blancaflor did her best between the post, making six saves on 10 shots on goal.
Xavier won the game with goals from Samira Roper in the 23rd minute, Crislyn Gregory in the 57th minute, Faye Butterworth in the 77th minute and Shakiana Dagher in the 88th.
This season saw the Jaguars set new records, including best start to the season and single-game goals scored. Individually, UHV saw Flanagan set the new career records for games played (76) and games started (69). Spree-Kolos set the new single-season goals record with 14 this year, breaking a record that has stood since 2013. It was also the sixth time in program history the team eclipsed the 10-win mark.
This marks the end of the collegiate careers of Flanagan, Spencer, Spree-Kolos, Hayli Nichols, Nickole Stroman, Ana Maria Munoz, Arianna Rios, Lexi Day, Kaitlyn Kongdara and Noa Txintxurreta.
