The UHV women's soccer team will look to keep its winning ways going this week.
The Jaguars (8-2-0, 5-2-0; 15 pts.) face LSU Alexandria (5-4-2, 4-1-2; 14 pts.) on Thursday and Louisiana Christian on Saturday in Red River Athletic Conference play.
Currently, UHV is in a tie with Our Lady of the Lake for fifth place in the conference standings. All three teams are one point away from third-place Louisiana Christian (6-4-2, 5-1-1; 16 pts.). LSUA is one point behind in seventh place. The top eight teams make the conference tournament with the top four hosting quarterfinal matches.
The Jaguars enter this week's matches on a three-game winning streak following wins of 5-1 against Southwest last Thursday and a record-setting 10-0 win over Paul Quinn on Saturday.
UHV boasts the fourth-best offense in the conference, averaging 3.4 goals per game, while also being stingy in the back with a 1.2 Goals Allowed Average, which also ranks fourth in the conference.
Kyleigh Spree-Kolos has led the charge for the Jaguars offensively this season.
The graduate senior from Victoria has scored 10 goals this season after picking up four goals in last week's wins, moving her three goals away from tying the single season record shared by Sheliat Akapo (2013) and Emily Lupton (2015). She's scored in each of UHV's last four games. Spree-Kolos ranks fifth in the conference in goals scored.
Senior Estelle Flanagan notched two goals last week to up her season total to five. Aoife Saunders had a pair of goals against Paul Quinn and is now up to three this year.
In total, UHV has had 17 different goal scorers this season.
Goalkeepers Franciezca Blancaflor, a sophomore, and Hayli Nichols, a senior, have done well to put the Jaguars in position to win games with each boasting a 4-1 record between the posts.
Nichols earned her third shutout of the year on Saturday after splitting time with junior Abree Fry, who made her first career appearance for UHV against PQC.
The Jaguars have met the Generals of LSUA 12 times previously and have a 4-6-2 all-time record in the series. UHV and Louisiana Christian have met three times previously with the Jaguars holding a 1-2 record.
