The UHV women's soccer team will look to continue its momentum this Saturday when it hosts Jarvis Christian.
The Jaguars (2-0-2, 1-0-0) picked up a 5-0 win over Texas College on Thursday to open their Red River Athletic Conference schedule. Five different Jaguars scored as the team improved its regular season unbeaten streak to 11 matches, including wins in the last two.
"We've had good momentum recently," said head coach Adrian Rigby. "We've come together and have seen the progress through the early stages of the season. Now we've got to keep that going through a tough conference schedule."
UHV managed 58 shots on Thursday against the Steers, helping the Jaguars move to the top 25 nationally in shots with 113. That mark is good for the top spot among RRAC teams.
Kaitlyn McCarty, Estelle Flanagan, Kaydee Cox, Rosa Reyes and Arantza Alva each score Thursday. It was the first career goal for McCarty, a freshman, and Reyes, a sophomore. It was the second goal of the year for each Flanagan and Cox.
The Jaguars have managed clean sheets in each of their wins this season.
The Bulldogs (1-2-1, 1-0-0) enter Saturday after picking up a 2-0 win over Huston-Tillotson on Thursday.
This will be the 11th meeting all-time between UHV and Jarvis Christian with the Jaguars holding a 9-1-0 advantage in the series after wins in the last two matches. Flanagan and Clara Strand each scored in a 3-0 win in last year's match at Jarvis Christian.
Saturday will be Youth Soccer Appreciation Weekend. Any kid wearing either their UHV Soccer Camp shirt or youth soccer jersey gets in free with a paid adult ticket.
