
Chopin, Biais in Top 5; Jags 2nd after first day of RRAC Tournament
SAN ANTONIO – Heading into the final round of the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament at The Golf Club of Texas, UHV men's golf is one spot off the lead with two individuals in contention for the individual championship.
The Jaguars went 305-295—600 on the first day and sit in second place, 10 shots behind University of the Southwest heading into Tuesday's final round.
Paul Chopin set the pace for the Jaguars, going and even-par 69-75—144 to sit in third place just three shots off the lead. The junior from France knocked down six birdies in the opening round and held the Round 1 lead at 3-under.
Fellow Frenchman Nathan Biais closed the first day strong going 77-70—147 (+3) and sitting in fifth, six shots off the lead. The sophomore had an eagle and three birdies in the second round.
Joshua Van der Wath (80-76—156) and Lucky Boonsrirat (79-77—156) share 16th place after the first day.
Hugo Panos (83-74—157) was alone in 18th place to round out UHV's scores at the Lee Trevino-designed course.
The Final Round gets underway at 8 a.m. tomorrow.
