Dakiche leads, Jags in second after first day of Claud Jacobs Invitational
UHV sophomore Enzo Dakiche flirted with program's lowest-ever round to kick off the 2024 Claud Jacobs Invitational on Monday.
The Paris, France, native carded a six-under 66 in the first round at the Victoria Country Club on Monday, finishing one stroke shy of the record 65 accomplished three times – twice by Jaxon Langford in 2021-22 and once by Benjamin Lake in 2020-21.
Dakiche followed that with an even-par 72 in the second round to sit atop the leaderboard by one stroke over Texas Wesleyan's Colin Price (72-67—139).
The No. 15-ranked Jaguars sit in second as a team following rounds of 290 and 298. They are 13 strokes behind No. 9-ranked Texas Wesleyan (289-286—575).
Dakiche opened the tournament with eight birdies in the first round before adding two more and an eagle in the second round.
Fellow Frenchman Paul Chopin sits in a four-way tie for eighth after going 71-77—148 on the opening day at VCC. The Poitier, France, native had four birdies on the opening day.
Nathan Biais, also from France, made the biggest improvement in the second round, jumping up 19 spots after going 78-72—150 on the opening day. He sits T-16 heading into the final day of the tournament.
Hayden Hardwick (T-27) turned in rounds of 76 and 77 on the opening day.
Joshua Van Der Wath (77-84—161) is T-45 after the first two rounds.
Individuals Gabriel Guerrero (76-81—157) and Cort Tunall (79-78—157) are T-38.
Edgar Hinojosa, competing as an individual is in 55th.
The final round gets underway at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday at VCC.
