No. 17 Jags lead RRAC Tourney after Round 1 thanks to two under-par rounds
Paul Chopin and Nathan Biais did their best to set the pace for the No. 17-ranked UHV men's golf team during the opening round of the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament on Monday.
Chopin, a sophomore from Chassors, France, flirted with the all-time lowest round by shooting a five-under 67 to hold the individual lead. Freshman Nathan Biais shot a three-under 69 to sit alone in second, as well.
They led the Jaguars to a team score of 286, which is the second-lowest opening round score in a conference tournament in program history.
The Jaguars lead Our Lady of the Lake by seven strokes with two rounds to play.
Chopin kept a tidy scorecard on Monday, carding tournament-best six birdies against one bogey with 11 pars. He shot three-under on the four Par 5s to lead the field with a 4.25 stroke average on the Par 5s.
Biais also had a clean first round with only one bogey and four birdies.
Hayden Hardwick was inside the Top 10 at T-9 after an opening round 74 (+2) in which he had a pair of birdies.
Joshua Van Der Wath is T-15 after the first day in which he shot a 76. Enzo Dakiche was T-22 after a 78 in the first round.
UHV will continue its pursuit for a fourth consecutive conference championship on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.
