Van Der Wath, No. 19 Jags win tri-match with Prairie View A&M, Texas Southern
A career day by junior Joshua Van Der Wath helped the No. 19-ranked UHV men's golf team secure a win in a tri-match against NCAA Division I opponents on Tuesday.
The South African shot a career-best five-under 67 at Victoria Country Club to win the individual title and propel the Jaguars to the team title in a tri-match with Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern.
Van Der Wath carded five birdies and an eagle for his first career win.
The Jaguars finished seven-under as a team with a 281 score, 11 strokes in front of Texas Southern (292).
Nathan Biais finished second at four-under (68), one stroke behind Van Der Wath. The freshman from France led the field with seven birdies made on the first, third, sixth, 11th, 13th and 17th holes. It's the second time this season Biais has shot a 68.
Enzo Dakiche, a sophomore, turned in his second Top 5 finish of the season after finishing fourth at even-par (72). Dakiche has been par or better in six of his seven rounds this season.
Richman Houston finished just outside of the Top 5 at T-6th after shooting a two-over 74. The junior from Midland carded five birdies on Tuesday.
Hayden Hardwick and Cort Tunall, both competing as individuals, finished in a tie for 11th after each shooting 76 with a pair of birdies to their names.
Edgar Hinojosa shot a 79 while Gabriel Guerrero shot 82 while competing as individuals.
The Jaguars will next host the UHV Fall Classic on Oct. 16-17 at Victoria Country Club.
