No. 17/19 Jags lead UHV Fall Classic after first day
The UHV men's golf team will enter the final day of the UHV Fall Classic with an opportunity to pick up a win.
The Jaguars shot rounds of 301-302—603 on Monday to hold a five stroke lead over Blinn College after the first two rounds of play at the Victoria Country Club.
Joshua Van Der Wath, who won the individual title at UHV's tri-match with Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern two weeks ago, holds a two-stroke lead over Texas A&M-San Antonio's Jacob Pena after shooting rounds of 69 and 74 to sit at one-under for the tournament.
The junior from South Africa lead the field in birdies made with nine in the first 36 holes. Van Der Wath's opening round was his second consecutive round under par. He was the only player to shoot a round under par in both rounds on Monday.
All five of UHV's lineup sat inside the top 20 after the first day.
Richman Houston, a junior from Midland, was the only other Jaguar inside the Top 10. Houston was tied for sixth after rounds of 74 and 75.
Enzo Dakiche and Paul Chopin shared 13th place after the two each shot rounds of 79 and 76.
Nathan Biais was 17th after rounds of 80 and 76 to open the tournament.
Court Tunall was UHV's top individual contributor, closing the first day in 25th after rounds of 80 and 79. Hayden Hardwick, also competing as an individual, shot rounds of 85 and 75 to sit in 28th.
The tournament will resume on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.
