ALEXANDRIA, La. – The UHV softball team made a bid for another ranked win this season.
But a seventh-inning rally came up one run shy as the Jaguars fell to No. 9-ranked LSU Alexandria, 9-4 and 6-5, on Saturday at Generals Softball Field.
After falling behind 6-2 to enter the seventh inning of Game 2, a two-run single by Claire Blinka and an RBI single by Kenzie Chambers, each with two outs, made it a one-run game with two runners in scoring position to give the Jaguars (19-15, 11-5) a chance to tie or take the lead.
Blinka finished the doubleheader 2-for-8 with four RBIs, including a two-run home run in Game 1. The Port Lavaca native leads the team with six homers and 32 RBIs this season.
Chambers also had a pair of hits and RBIs across the doubleheader, as well as two stolen bases to bring her season total up to 38, which is 11 shy of the single-season record she set last season.
Jasmine Canales was the lone Jaguar to post a multi-hit performance against one of the nation's best pitching staffs, going 2-for-3 in Game 2.
Hope Quinones took the loss in the circle in Game 1 while Audrie Sayas took the loss in Game 2. Keira Reis threw three innings of relief in Game 1, allowing just two runs to the Red River Athletic Conference's best offense.
UHV continues its weekend road trip with a 12 p.m. doubleheader at (RV) Texas A&M-Texarkana on Sunday.
