GULF SHORES, Ala. – The UHV softball team fell in both of its opening games of the Gulf Coast Invitational on Friday.
The Jaguars fell to No. 16 Southeastern (FL), 5-1, in the first game of the day at the Gulf Shores Sports Complex.
Claire Blinka scored UHV's lone run against the Fire when she came home on a groundout by Deeandra Maldonado.
Maldonado set the pace for the Jaguars (11-11), going 2-for-3 at the plate. Blinka, Kaylle Lopez, Jasmine Canales and Jayce Bolin had a hit for UHV in the loss.
Audrie Sayas was charged with the losing decision in the circle against Southeastern.
UHV then fell 8-0 in six innings to St. Xavier (IL) in the team's final game of the day.
Canales led the team, going 2-for-2 at the plate. Blinka and Alyssa Carter each had hits.
Hope Quinones took the loss in the circle for the Jaguars against the Cougars.
UHV will look to bounce back on Saturday with games against No. 7 Cumberlands (KY) and Middle Georgia State.
