(RV) Jags fall to (RV) Missouri Baptist
The UHV softball team got the start it wanted on Tuesday against Missouri Baptist.
The Jaguars scored four unanswered runs between the first and second innings to jump out to a 4-0 lead, but the Spartans answered with nine unanswered runs to take a 9-4 win. It was scheduled to be the first game of a doubleheader, but Game 2 was called off in the middle of the second inning due to rain and deemed a no contest.
Allison Snedeker opened the scoring for UHV (5-4) with an RBI double to score Jordan Jones in the first. It was the second consecutive game with a hit for the senior from Friendswood.
Claire Blinka looked like she blew the game open with a three-run double in the second to put UHV up 4-0 at the time.
Blinka finished 2-for-4 at the plate with the three RBIs. She's now hit safely in eight of the first nine games of the season. Kenzie Chambers extended her hitting and on-base streaks to four and 13, respectively, and added to her career stolen base record with three in the game. Jordan Jones is now on a four-game hitting streak after a single on Tuesday. VeJeigh Zamora and Fayth Hoover also had hits for UHV.
After the hot start, the Jaguars couldn't find any offense against the Spartans' Alexandria Cafolla, who pitched five scoreless innings of relief. Hope Quinones was the pitcher of record for the Jaguars after tossing 3.1 innings.
UHV continues its homestand on Saturday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against NCAA Division III foe Hardin-Simmons.
