Jags split doubleheader with Southwest

SEMINOLE – The UHV softball team split its doubleheader with University of the Southwest on Friday at the Seminole ISD Softball Field.

The Jaguars (17-13, 9-3) won Game 1, 5-3, before falling, 4-3, in Game 2.

After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, Allison Snedeker tied the game in the third with an RBI single to plate Kenzie Chambers.

The Mustangs (5-23, 1-9) regained the lead in the third before UHV got an RBI triple from Fayth Hoover and then an RBI single by Claire Blinka to take a 3-2 lead in the fourth.

Snedeker then mashed her third home run of the season in the fifth inning and Hoover delivered a sacrifice fly to put the Jaguars up 5-2.

UHV continued its offensive success to open Game 2 with Blinka hitting a leadoff home run and then Snedeker scoring on an error to go up 2-0 in the first.

Blinka would add another RBI with a single to score Alyssa Carter in the third and give the Jaguars a 3-1 lead before Southwest came back with three unanswered runs between the fourth and fifth innings, including the go-ahead, two-run home run in the fifth.

Blinka had hits in each game, going 5-for-8 with three RBIs to extend her hitting streak to 23 games. Snedeker was 4-for-6 with two RBIs between the two games.

Audrie Sayas earned the win in Game 1, going four innings and allowing two runs on four hits. It's her eighth win this season.

Hope Quinones tossed three innings of relief behind Sayas, allowing one run on three hits to earn her first save of the season

Jocleyne Galvan was charged with the loss in Game 2.

UHV heads to San Antonio on Tuesday to square off with Texas A&M-San Antonio in a 5 p.m. doubleheader.
