HAWKINS – Cameron Cowan provided one of the many highlights during UHV's sweep of Jarvis Christian on Friday.
The senior pitched five innings in a 13-2 win in six innings to open the doubleheader, allowing one run on one hit with five strikeouts. With those five strikeouts, she now has 309 in her career and broke Dawn Villegas' record of 307 set in 2011-13. It was also her 48th career win, tying Emily Bergstrom's record set in 2010-12.
The Jaguars (26-8, 14-4) won Game 2, 5-0, for their fourth straight win.
Cowan also helped her cause in Game 1, going 1-for-1 with a pair of RBIs. Alana Ortega was 4-for-4 with three RBIs, all of which came on a sixth-inning triple to spark a six-run frame. Kaylle Lopez also had a three-RBI performance in Game 1, bringing her season total to 46, which ranks second nationally.
Kenzie Chambers continued her torrid pace on Friday, going 6-for-7 with an inside-the-park home run and six runs scored. The junior catcher upped her season batting average to .526, which ranks sixth nationally and leads the Red River Athletic Conference.
She also added three stolen bases and now has 36 on the year, just seven away from Rachel Laird's 2014 record of 43.
Claire Blinka went 4-for-7 with four RBIs, including three in Game 2.
Allison Snedeker went 4-for-4 in Game 1, and finished 5-for-7 with 3 RBIs in the doubleheader.
Eryn Sanchez picked up her first win of the season after throwing a complete-game shutout in Game 2. The Spring native allowed just six hits while striking out five in what was her third start this year.
The Jaguars square off with Texas College on Saturday.
