Adair stepping down as UHV Golf Head Coach
University of Houston-Victoria men's and women's golf head coach Garrett announced he is stepping down, effective March 21.
Under Adair's guidance, the men's team had two top-10 finishes at the NAIA National Golf Championships and four consecutive Red River Athletic Conference championship, and the women's team was conference champions in 2021, advancing to the NAIA National Championships.
"I'm very grateful to Director of Athletics Ashley Walyuchow and the university administration for allowing me to pursue my dream," Adair said. "These last seven years have given me memories that will last a lifetime. I'm proud of how both programs have grown over the years and I look forward to seeing that growth continue."
Adair took over as head coach in March of 2020 after three years as an assistant.
Since then, Adair has coached five NAIA All-Americans in Max Schliesing (2022), Carson Caylor (2023), Joshua Van der Wath, Nathan Biais and Enzo Dakiche (2024).
The Jaguars men's team has also been ranked in the NAIA Top 25 for 22 consecutive ratings, a streak which dates back to Nov. 5, 2021. UHV men's golf boasts the University's highest-ever ranking, coming in at No. 3 in the 2022-23 preseason poll following a fourth-place finish – UHV's best-ever finish at nationals in any sport the year before. Last season, the Jaguars finished fifth at the national championships with Van der Wath posting the best-ever individual finish by a UHV golfer at T-8.
"Garrett was instrumental in the success of the men's and women's programs these last seven years, taking them to new heights and consistently qualifying for the national championships," Walyuchow said. "I wish him well in the future but know the program is in a good position to have further success thanks for his hard work. I truly appreciate all he has done for the golf program at UHV."
Assistant coach Taylor Dedmen has been named Interim Head Coach.
