No. 19 Jags set for first home tournament against Prairie View A&M, Texas Southern
The No. 19-ranked UHV men's golf team will continue its push for a fourth consecutive conference title on Tuesday.
The Jaguars host NCAA Division I schools Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern in a tri-match at Victoria Country Club. It's the first of four home tournaments this season, including the 2024 Red River Athletic Conference Tournament.
"This will be a good test for our team," said head coach Garrett Adair. "We've had success over the last three years because we've competed against good teams like Prairie View and Texas Southern. Hopefully we can put together a good performance across the board and build on a good start to the year."
UHV has turned in second- and fifth-place finishes in the Texas Intercollegiate and Waco River Classic, respectively, in the first two tournaments of the year.
Enzo Dakiche, a sophomore transfer from Wayland Baptist, finished T-2nd at the Texas Intercollegiate by going seven-under for the three rounds. Richman Houston, a junior transfer from Midland College, followed that up by going three-under at the Waco River Classic to finish inside the Top 15 at T-11.
Dakiche holds a 71.5 stroke average through six rounds thanks to five rounds under par. Houston holds a 73 stroke average heading into Tuesday.
The two are part of six new faces on the men's team, which has a stroke average of 288.3.
"It's been good to see the new guys on the team step up and contribute like this," Adair said. "Enzo and Richman have played really well to start off the year, and it carries over to the whole team. It feels good to be where we're at through two tournaments. Now we want to continue improving off that."
Play will start at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Victoria Country Club and will be one day only.
