No. 15 Jags drop close one in series finale with OLLU
The UHV baseball team dropped a one-run game on Sunday to close out its three-game series with Our Lady of the Lake.
Despite a late rally in the ninth, the Jaguars fell, 3-2, to the Saints at Riverside Stadium. It's just the fourth loss at home for UHV (32-8, 19-5), which swept Saturday's doubleheader to earn the series win.
Brady Thompson delivered UHV's two runs with a two-out double to right-center in the ninth to score Rafael Gutierrez and Jackson Purcell. It was one of seven hits the Jaguars scattered Sunday afternoon.
Gutierrez led the team, going 2-for-3. Purcell extended his hitting streak to eight games with a single in the ninth inning. DeeAndre Torres, Jose Montanez and Kyle Barosh each had a hit, as well.
Julian Garcia suffered just his second loss of the season after surrendering three runs on four hits and two walks in seven innings. Justin Mireles came on in relief of Garcia to toss a shutout frame.
The Jaguars return to action on Tuesday with a three-game non-conference series against John Melvin University. Tuesday's first pitch is slated for 2 p.m. while Wednesday's doubleheader is scheduled for 12 p.m.
