The UHV baseball team just couldn't find a timely hit on Saturday during Homecoming.
The Jaguars were swept 3-1 and 8-3 in Saturday's doubleheader against No. 3-ranked LSU Shreveport at Riverside Stadium.
UHV (20-9, 9-6) was able pull within 2-1 in Game 1 after a fourth-inning sacrifice fly from Kaden Fikac. But the Jaguars left three runners on base in the final 2.1 innings while the Pilots (25-3, 16-2) added an insurance run in the fifth inning.
In Game 2, the Jaguars were held scoreless until the sixth inning when Fikac drove in UHV's first run with a single to right field, scoring Raul Lopez. Hal Perez followed that with an RBI groundout to score Jose Montanez.
Montanez continued the scoring in the seventh with an RBI single, scoring Raul Lopez to cut the deficit to 6-3, but two ninth inning RBIs from Ryan Davenport and Josh Gibson put the Pilots out of reach.
The Jaguars left 10 runners on base in Game 2.
Lopez had hits in each of the two games Saturday to extend his team-leading hitting streak to 15 games. The senior center fielder from El Paso had three hits between the two games.
Hal Perez threw out three would-be base stealers on Saturday, bringing his season total to 15 which is currently tied for first nationally.
Brady Parker and Julian Garcia were the pitchers of record for UHV on Saturday.
The Jaguars travel to Our Lady of the Lake for a non-conference game on Tuesday. They return home for a three-game Red River Athletic Conference Series on Friday.
