Jags’ rally falls short in opener against LSU Alexandria
The (RV) UHV baseball team got LSU Alexandria's best shot on Friday.
Despite a late rally, the Jaguars fell 7-6 in the series opener between the Red River Athletic Conference foes at Riverside Stadium.
Raul Lopez's two-run home run in the third inning for UHV (31-14, 18-10) answered a five-run first inning from the Generals (20-19, 17-10), which included a three-run home run from Blaise Foote.
LSUA scored a run in each the fourth and sixth innings before Hal Perez doubled to drive in Jean Michael Gonzalez. Juan Martin capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly to score Lopez in the sixth and a two-run single with two outs in the eighth inning for a team-leading three RBIs.
Gonzalez, Lopez and Hal accounted for two hits each of the Jaguars' eight hits.
Mason Longoria suffered the loss after allowing six runs – five of which were earned – on 11 hits in five innings pitched.
Carson McKenna came on to throw four innings of relief in which he allowed one run on three hits with three strikeouts.
The series and Free Ticket Weekend presented by Shaw Realty concludes Saturday with games at 12 and 2 p.m. Between the games, UHV's six seniors will be honored for Senior Day.
