Jags fall to Louisiana Christian in series finale
PINEVILLE, La. – The UHV baseball team fell, 3-2, to Louisiana Christian in a closely contested Red River Athletic Conference series finale on Saturday at Billy Allgood Field.
The Jaguars opened the scoring in the fourth inning on an RBI single from Xavier Ortega.
After falling behind 2-1, Jose Montanez delivered an RBI groundout in the sixth inning to score Brady Thompson and tie the game.
DeeAndre Torres and Jean Michael Gonzalez tallied four of UHV's six hits on Saturday, going 2-for-4 and 2-for-5, respectively. Ortega and Rafael Gutierrez had the other two hits for the Jaguars.
Julian Garcia was charged with his first loss of the season after surrendering three runs – two earned – on nine hits over six innings. Mason Longoria threw two shutout innings in relief, letting up just one hit.
This is the first series the Jaguars (25-7, 14-4) have lost this year.
UHV next heads to NCAA Division I Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 6 p.m. Tuesday in a rematch from a Feb. 26 meeting in which the Jaguars prevailed 6-4.
