NEW ORLEANS, La. – UHV completed a three-game sweep of Xavier (La.) in a doubleheader at Wesley Barrow Stadium on Saturday.
The Jags (10-13, 4-2) won 10-4 and 22-4, in seven innings, against the Gold Rush. The 22 runs in the final game set a new season-high and ranks second-most in school history.
Ty Williams (SR/Victoria, TX) led the way in the doubleheader, going 4-for-8 with eight RBIs, a double and a home run between the two games. Williams was 3-for-5 with six RBIs in the second game.
His three-run home run in the first inning opened the scoring for UHV. It was his second home run of the year. He had an RBI single in the second and a two-run single in the third.
UHV sent nine batters to the plate in the sixth inning of the second game, plating five runs with RBIs from Sabian Hernandez (FR/Pearland, TX), Langston White (JR/Seabrook, TX) and Edrick Morillo (SR/Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico).
In the first game, the Jags used a four-run fourth inning to take a 5-2 lead thanks to RBIs from Cade Mitscherling (SR/Victoria, TX), Westley Schields (SR/Houston, TX) and Zach Lee (SR/El Campo, TX).
Lee finished the doubleheader 3-for-6 at the plate with two RBIs.
Julian Garcia (JR/Houston, TX) earned the win in the first game, pitching six innings and striking out seven. Brady Parker (FR/Victoria, TX) took the win in the second game after five innings of work in which he struck out four.
The Jags return home to face University of the Southwest in a three-game series with a 4 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
