Women’s golf battles elements to win Tabor College Early Spring Classic
MANSFIELD – A windy final round didn't halt the UHV women's golf team on Tuesday.
The Jaguars grinded through the 20+ MPH wind at Walnut Creek Country Club to win the Tabor College Early Spring Classic. It's the first team win for the Jaguars since the 2021 A.i.i Conference Tournament.
UHV shot rounds of 340-335-354 for a three-round total of 1,029 to finish as the wire-to-wire leader and beat Southwestern (KS) by 34 strokes.
Senior Emmily Bickelmann led the charge with three consecutive rounds of 79 to finish second, one shot behind the winner Valencia Andov from Tabor. The Weisbaden, Germany, native had six birdies scattered across the three rounds and had only two holes worse than bogey in the final round.
But the Jaguars also had four of their five golfers finish in the Top 10 to help propel them to the team win.
Freshman Madeline Pate finished fifth after going 78-84-91—253. Junior Kaitlin Lopez went 86-87-95—268 to finish ninth thanks to three birdies in the first round while senior Evelyn Nguyen finished 10th after shooting 97-85-89—271.
