Jags close season with strong second place finish at conference
The UHV women's golf team saw its season come to an end on Wednesday with a strong finish.
The Jaguars (332-328-316—976) finished second at the RRAC-Frontier Women's Golf Tournament, only trailing No. 23-ranked Rocky Mountain and edging out Our Lady of the Lake by seven strokes.
"Not to hide it, but OLLU has been kind of the team we've been chasing," said head coach Garrett Adair. "We didn't have all of our best stuff, but we wanted to give Rocky some tests and we did on the first day. But we're just happy to keep building and stay consistent. We've got a good recruiting class coming in with the players we have here. Hopefully today continues to boost our confidence."
The Jaguars had three players finish inside the Top 10 to finish the tournament. Mia Lerma and Emmily Bickelmann earned All-Tournament honors.
Lerma continued her pace from Tuesday, shooting a 75 to finish third after rounds of 89-74-75—238 with three birdies on Wednesday. Bickelmann finished fourth after rounds of 77-87-75—239 also thanks to a trio of final-round birdies.
Caitlyn Niemietz rounded out UHV's representatives in the Top 10 after going 83-81-79—243 with a team-leading four birdies in the final round. She had seven birdies in the tournament, which ranked second.
Cecelia Niemietz (83-86-87—256) finished 16th while Evelyn Nguyen (89-93-94—276) finished 22nd.
The Jaguars ranked second in the field with 19 birdies.
"From top to bottom, with Emmily and Mia on the women's being all-conference and all-tournament," Adair said, "it's all impressive. Again, that's a testament to the winning culture we're trying to build and bringing in good recruits."
