Bickelmann, Pate power women’s golf to 2nd after first day of Fall Classic
Emmily Bickelmann and Madeline Pate helped set the tone for the Jaguars on the first day of the UHV Fall Classic.
The duo each shot a four-over 76 at The Club at Colony Creek on Monday to share fifth place and help power the Jaguars to a season-best round of 317. The team performance has UHV sitting in second place behind Blinn College.
Pate had a team-leading three birdies, including two on the front nine, as well as nine pars. Bickelmann kept a tidy scorecard with a pair of birdies and 11 pars. Both are two shots away from second place and six shots off the lead.
Evelyn Nguyen carded an 81 to open the tournament and picked up a birdie on the Par 4 10th hole to help her sit T-14.
Kaitlin Lopez also had a birdie on Monday as she shot an 84. The junior from San Antonio is in 19th heading into the final round.
Remme Trujillo is just outside the Top 20 after an 87 on Monday. The freshman from Porter had a pair of birdies on the opening day.
Competing as an individual, Reese Trujillo found herself in a tie for 10th after a 79 on Monday. She also had a pair of birdies.
Victoria native Laney Glass (94, 29th) also competed as an individual for the Jaguars.
The final round will take place at Riverside Golf Course at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
