UHV’s Bickelmann in contention after opening round at Schreiner
KERRVILLE – Emmily Bickelmann will have a shot at the individual team title at the Schreiner Shoot-Out on Tuesday.
The junior from Weisbaden, Germany, shot a five-over 77 at The Club at Comanche Trace on Monday to sit in a tie for second with Emma Koch and Emma Luna of St. Thomas (TX).
That helped the Jaguars shoot a 327 on the opening day. They sit in fourth place, one stroke behind Our Lady of the Lake.
Bickelmann opened the tournament with a birdie on the 482-yard Par 5 13th, spurring her to a team-leading four birdies. It's the seventh time this season she's shot in the 70s.
Last week, she shot a career-best 72 in the final round of the Claud Jacobs Invitational to finish T-9.
Mia Lerma, fresh off a third-place finish at the Claud, is T-10 after the first round following an 81 to open the tournament.
Caitlyn Niemietz (84, T-17) and Cecelia Niemietz (85, T-20) are within the Top 20 after Monday's opening round.
Kaitlin Lopez shot an 89 in the opening round and is T-29 heading into the final day.
The tournament will conclude at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
