Jags sit in second after opening round of RRAC/Frontier Women’s Golf Tournament
With three players sitting inside the Top 10, the UHV women's golf team is in a good spot after the first round of the Red River Athletic Conference-Frontier Conference Women's Golf Tournament on Monday.
Junior Emmily Bickelmann continued her strong 2023-24 season by carding a 77 in the opening round to sit second overall while sisters Caitlyn Niemietz and Cecelia Niemietz shot 83 to sit T-9 after the first day at the Victoria Country Club.
That helped the Jaguars shoot a team score of 339, which puts them second and 13 strokes behind No. 23-ranked Rocky Mountain.
After opening with a bogey on her first hole, Bickelmann shot an even par on her next seven holes. The Weisbaden, Germany, native closed her opening round on a strong note with a birdie on the Par 4 10th hole to sit six shots back of Rocky Mountain's Valentina Zuleta in the lead.
All of the Jaguars' five players sit inside the Top 20 with Mia Lerma and Evelyn Nguyen at T-16 (89) after 18 holes.
UHV led the field in Par 5 scoring average in Round 1, averaging 5.70 strokes on the four Par 5s at VCC. They were second in Pars with 42, one behind Rocky Mountain.
Round 2 of the three-round tournament gets under way at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
