Jags head to final day of conference tourney in second
Mia Lerma's stellar second round helped the UHV women's golf team keep hold of second place heading into the final round of the Red River-Frontier Conference Women's Golf Tournament.
Lerma shot the second-lowest Round 2 score with a 74 in which she carded three birdies, 10 pars and shot nothing worse than bogey at Victoria Country Club on Tuesday.
UHV shot a 328 in the second round to hold a two-shot advantage in second place over Our Lady of the Lake.
Tuesday's performance from the senior from Mission helped her climb 13 spots on the leaderboard to T-3.
Caitlyn Niemietz followed Lerma's performance with an 81 with a pair of birdies on her card to move up four spots to the Top 5 at T-5.
Niemietz is tied with teammate Emmily Bickelmann, who shot an 87 on Tuesday.
Cecelia Niemietz is inside the Top 15 at T-13 following a second-round 86. Sophomore Evelyn Nguyen is at 20th after a 93 in the second round.
No. 23-ranked Rocky Mountain College holds a 21-shot lead over the field thanks to an even-par 72 by solo leader Valentina Zuleta, who is one-under through two rounds.
The final round of play gets going at 8 a.m. on Wednesday.
