Women’s golf finishes third at Fall Classic
Thanks to its best tournament so far this year, the UHV women's golf team is closing the Fall season on a strong note.
The Jaguars finished third at the annual UHV Fall Classic, which wrapped up play Tuesday at Riverside Golf Course. UHV shot rounds of 317-322—639 to finish in a tie for third with NCAA Division III St. Thomas (TX).
"I'm really proud of the way the girls played this week," said head coach Garrett Adair. "They've been putting in a lot of hard work with assistant coach Taylor Dedmen and it's paying off. I'm eager to see how we carry this momentum into the spring."
Senior Emmily Bickelmann turned in a Top 5 finish after shooting rounds of 76-79—155 to finish T-5.
Evelyn Nguyen, Kaitlin Lopez and Remme Trujillo each shot a final round 81.
Nguyen (81-81—162) finished 13th while Lopez (84-81—165) finished T-16. Both had two birdies each. Trujillo (87-81—167) finished T-21 after turning in a scorecard with nothing worse than bogey.
Madeline Pate (76-84—160) finished 12th after a strong opening round to close out the freshman's first semester in college golf.
"I definitely saw a lot of improvement from our first tournament," Dedmen said. "I think our mental game has gotten a lot stronger. I think we've gotten more consistent. We're starting to miss in the right areas of the course and I think that's helped a lot. If we stay level headed and do what we've been doing, I think we'll be all set for the spring."
Reese Trujillo (79-86—165), competing as an individual, shared 16th with Lopez. Laney Glass (94-94—188) finished 28th as an individual for UHV.
The Jaguars will resume their season on Feb. 24-25 with the Claud Jacobs Invitational at The Club at Colony Creek.
