Bio
Lindsey Ortiz begins her 11th season as head coach for the University of Houston-Victoria softball program and 16th year with the program overall.
Ortiz was a member of the first UHV softball program in 2008 and after two years on the field, she became the Jaguars’ assistant coach in 2010 and served in that capacity until being handed the head coaching duties in 2014.
In 2023, Ortiz was named UHV's Senior Woman Leader, a designation for the highest-ranking female in each NAIA athletics department or conference office. The purpose of the SWL designation is to promote meaningful representation of women in the leadership and management of college sports.
In 2021, Ortiz guided the Jaguars to their first NAIA World Series appearance. She has guided UHV to five NAIA Tournament appearances.
She has compiled an overall record of 284-161 in her 10 seasons as the Jaguars’ head coach.
During Ortiz’s two seasons as a Jaguar, she helped UHV win its first Association of Independent Institutions Conference title and make its first appearance at the NAIA National Championships. She served as the Jaguars’ team captain for both her junior and senior seasons.
Ortiz holds top 10 UHV career marks in fielding percentage (.990) and fielding putouts (696).
She also was named to the NFCA All-Region team in 2008 and received All-American Academic accolades in 2009.
She joined the Jaguars in 2008 after pitching and playing for Galveston College. She graduated with a business degree from UHV in 2009 and received the prestigious Most Outstanding Business Student Award. She completed her master’s degree in interdisciplinary studies in the spring of 2011.
A native of League City, she lives in Inez and is married to Trinidad Ortiz. The couple has one daughter, Georgia, and a son, Nicholas.
