Hardwick named RRAC Golfer of the Week
WACO – Hayden Hardwick found a successful formula on the golf course last week.
The freshman finished T-2 at Texas Wesleyan's Texas Intercollegiate tournament after shooting 73-72-67—212 (-1) at Squaw Creek Golf Course in Willow Park. His four-under final round was his best individual round this season and he finished one shot off the winning score in just his seventh collegiate tournament.
After that showing, the Red River Athletic Conference named Hardwick its Men's Golfer of the Week for the week of April 15-21.
"I'm honored to be named RRAC Golfer of the Week," Hardwick said. "I'm extremely happy with my play to finally be in contention at a tournament and have the chance to win. It's nice to see that I can compete and have the chance to win every week heading into the conference tournament."
The Gregory-Portland product carded nine birdies and 38 pars between the three rounds. He only had one hole worse than bogey as he challenged for the win and helped No. 17-ranked UHV to a second-place finish.
Hardwick has been building to this moment, going back to his performance at Wayland Baptist's The Battle back in March where he shot 74-75-77—226 to finish in the Top 40 of a field which included nine ranked teams.
Hardwick is the second UHV men's golfer to receive the weekly honor, joining two-time RRAC Golfer of the Week Enzo Dakiche.
His performance comes two weeks before the Jaguars are set to defend their three consecutive conference titles when they host the RRAC Golf Tournament April 29-May 1 at Victoria Country Club.
"Hayden deserves this honor with the work he's put in over the last month," said head coach Garrett Adair. "He had a gameplan and stuck to it last week, and it paid off. With him having this strong of a performance, we're absolutely confident in what we can accomplish next week at conference. Really proud of what Hayden did last week."
