Caitlyn Niemietz ties personal best in opening round of Claud Jacobs Invitational
UHV's Caitlyn Niemietz set the tone for the women's golf team during the opening round of the Claud Jacobs Invitational on Monday.
The Cibolo native carded a seven-over 78 with a birdie and nine pars to tie her personal best at The Club at Colony Creek to kick off the Jaguars annual home tournament.
Her first round score put UHV in fifth place behind Rocky Mountain College, St. Thomas (FL), Our Lady of the Lake and first place Texas Wesleyan.
Mia Lerma led the team in birdies, making three for an opening round 80 which has her in a tie for 13th.
Emmily Bickelmann shot an 85 and sits T-30 after the opening round. Kaitlin Lopez had an 87 and is 35th.
Cecelia Niemietz (92) is in 46th. Laney Glass (91), competing as an individual, is in 45th.
The final round of the tournament gets under way at 9 a.m. Tuesday at The Club at Colony Creek.
