Jags finish 2nd at RRAC Tournament
SAN ANTONIO – Facing a 10-stroke deficit, UHV men's golf did all it could to fight for a fifth consecutive conference title.
However, the Jaguars (305-295-294—894) fell two strokes shy of eventual winners University of the Southwest (307-283-302—892) at the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament at The Golf Club of Texas on Tuesday despite a heroic effort on the back nine.
As a team, UHV's contributing scores from Joshua Van der Wath, Lucky Boonsrirat, Nathan Biais and Hugo Panos produced seven combined birdies as the Jaguars cut down eight of the 10 strokes they trailed by.
Biais turned in the team's best finish at T-3 after going 77-70-74—221. The sophomore from France closed the round at two-under through his final nine holes and carded a total of five birdies.
Fellow Frenchman Paul Chopin finished T-5 after going 69-75-78—222 on the Par 72 track.
Senior Joshua Van der Wath (80-76-73—229) and junior Lucky Boonsrirat (79-77-73—229) shared 12th place. Van der Wath was one-under on the back nine while Boonsrirat was even-par through the final nine holes.
Hugo Panos rounded out UHV's lineup in 15th after going 83-74-74—231.
Van der Wath, by way of his Top 10 finish at the 2024 NAIA Men's Golf National Championships, is guaranteed to represent UHV as an individual at the 2025 NAIA Tournament at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois.
The full field of qualifiers will be announced on Friday, May 9. UHV hopes to qualify through an at-large bid.
